The Associated Students of the University of Wyoming is the student government at UW. The goal of ASUW is to serve our fellow students in the best manner possible through accurate representation, professional interaction with campus programs and organizations, and responsible, effective leadership. ASUW is structured very similarly to the federal government with three branches and professional staff as well. Each branch serves its own purpose in the operation of ASUW.

Executive Branch

The ASUW Executive Branch is composed of the ASUW President and Vice President and executive positions that work towards the respective goal of the administration. The executives are appointed by the President with the consent of the ASUW Senate, via an application process at the start of each presidential term at the end of the Spring semester.

Legislative Branch

The ASUW Senate is composed of elected students from each of the colleges at the University of Wyoming, chaired by the Vice President. It is the role of the Senate to conduct legislative action and connect with officials on campus. ASUW Senators have the opportunity to effect change on campus and in our student community, and it is their responsibility to represent their respective colleges in the decision-making of the Student Government. Senator elections take place every Spring semester, or in case of a vacancy.

Judicial Council

The ASUW Judicial Council is composed of seven Justices, appointed by the ASUW President with consent from the ASUW Senate. The Judicial Council provides an interpretation of all Student Government working documents and has jurisdiction over ASUW rules, procedures, and actions of the Executive Branch, extending from the ASUW Constitution.

Professional Staff

The ASUW professional staff are responsible for supporting ASUW in their operations and overseeing the students' actions in all three branches of the Student Government. The full-time positions coordinate our programs and projects and manage ASUW accounting.

How You Can Get Involved

There are several ways that you can get involved with ASUW through different opportunities on campus!

During the spring semester, you can run in the elections to represent your college or in the Presidential election!
Through ASUW, students can become involved in numerous different committees across campus!
In the ASUW Senate, you can participate by becoming a Senator, filling a vacancy, or becoming a student-at-large and be a voting member!
Joining a program or partner of ASUW allows you to work in supported organizations of ASUW that work together to achieve shared goals and values!
Reaching out to your representatives in your college can help bring attention to issues or answer questions you may have about ASUW or UW!

ASUW Special Projects

What is the ASUW Special Projects Fund?

Each year, ASUW sets aside money from students fees to be used on one-time special requests. This money has in the past funded things such as technology upgrades, artwork for Union meeting rooms, free menstrual products, and expansion of the UW Bike Library. Requests can be from anyone in the UW community for projects that enhance the campus experience. Requests are due early in the Fall semester. How do I apply?

In order to be considered for a special projects request, applicants are required to fill out the application form below and upload their Special Projects proposal.
